Security time & cost calculator

Less security work.
More time to build.

Offensive testing, PR reviews, code scanning and vulnerability fixes. See what that work costs your team, and what getting time back could mean.

Where the numbers come from

The time input: an IDC survey sponsored by JFrog reported 8.16 security hours per developer per week. Its 210 respondents worked at organizations with 1,000+ employees. That covers broader security work, so replace our rounded 8-hour example with time on the activities above.

The hourly cost: $95 is an illustrative US estimate derived from BLS developer wages and employer benefit costs. Use your team's blended cost for your location. Team size, 48 working weeks, tool spend and pentest spend are editable examples, not industry averages.

The calculation: engineers × hours per week × working weeks × time-saving percentage = hours returned. Multiply by hourly cost for capacity value. Add only the tool and pentest spending you choose to remove. Count PR reviews, scan investigation, offensive testing and fixes within the same weekly hours, not on top of them.

All amounts are USD. Savings percentages are scenario assumptions. This estimate excludes breach losses, revenue gains and product fees. Sources checked September 25, 2026.
